Ces b\u00e2timents, connus sous le nom de <strong>chantiers Stipon<\/strong>, sont les derniers t\u00e9moins d\u2019une activit\u00e9 qui a profond\u00e9ment marqu\u00e9 la vie du village : la construction navale en bois. L\u2019ASPMF en assure aujourd\u2019hui la pr\u00e9servation et la transmission.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div id=\"attachment_63\" style=\"width: 680px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aspmf.com\/WP\/les-hangars-stipon\/dsc069971\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-63\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-63\" class=\"size-full wp-image-63\" src=\"https:\/\/www.aspmf.com\/WP\/wp-content\/uploads\/dsc069971.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"680\" height=\"454\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.aspmf.com\/WP\/wp-content\/uploads\/dsc069971.jpg 680w, https:\/\/www.aspmf.com\/WP\/wp-content\/uploads\/dsc069971-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 680px) 100vw, 680px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-63\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">chantier naval Stipon<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h2><strong>Des baraques militaires \u00e0 un chantier naval (1920\u20131923)<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>L\u2019histoire commence en <strong>1920<\/strong>, lorsque Georges Stipon, charpentier de marine, rach\u00e8te aux ench\u00e8res plusieurs <strong>baraques en bois goudronn\u00e9<\/strong> provenant du camp de prisonniers de l\u2019\u00cele Longue. Ces structures, robustes et faciles \u00e0 d\u00e9placer, sont d\u2019abord install\u00e9es sur l\u2019\u00eele, puis transf\u00e9r\u00e9es en <strong>1922\u20131923<\/strong> sur le <strong>sillon du Fret<\/strong>, un emplacement id\u00e9al entre l\u2019\u00e9tang et la mer.<\/p>\n<p>Le chantier prend rapidement forme : quatre cabanes align\u00e9es, noires de coaltar, coiff\u00e9es de toitures en t\u00f4le ondul\u00e9e. Leur silhouette deviendra l\u2019un des marqueurs visuels du Fret.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<h2><strong>Une dynastie de charpentiers<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Georges Stipon est bient\u00f4t rejoint par ses trois fils :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Georges (1919\u20131999)<\/strong>, ma\u00eetre d\u2019\u0153uvre et concepteur,<\/li>\n<li><strong>Armand (1923\u20132009)<\/strong>, charpentier constructeur,<\/li>\n<li><strong>Jean (1926\u20131998)<\/strong>, charpentier constructeur.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>En <strong>1963<\/strong>, ils fondent ensemble la <strong>SARL Chantiers Stipon Fr\u00e8res<\/strong>, qui poursuivra l\u2019activit\u00e9 jusqu\u2019en <strong>1988<\/strong>. Leur savoir-faire, transmis de p\u00e8re en fils, fera du chantier l\u2019un des plus actifs de la presqu\u2019\u00eele.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<h2><strong>Un chantier au service de la p\u00eache<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Entre 1923 et 1988, les chantiers Stipon construisent <strong>plus de 700 bateaux<\/strong>, un chiffre exceptionnel pour une structure artisanale. Leur production couvre toute la gamme des unit\u00e9s de travail de la rade et du littoral finist\u00e9rien :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>langoustiers<\/strong>,<\/li>\n<li><strong>coquilliers<\/strong>,<\/li>\n<li><strong>caseyeurs<\/strong>,<\/li>\n<li><strong>chalutiers<\/strong>,<\/li>\n<li><strong>sloups<\/strong>,<\/li>\n<li>petites unit\u00e9s de 5,5 \u00e0 8 m\u00e8tres destin\u00e9es aux p\u00eacheurs et plaisanciers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Jusqu\u2019\u00e0 <strong>16 ouvriers<\/strong> travaillent simultan\u00e9ment sur le site, dans une ambiance o\u00f9 se m\u00ealent odeur de bois, coups de maillet et fum\u00e9e de coaltar.<\/p>\n<p>Parmi les bateaux embl\u00e9matiques sortis du chantier, on peut citer : <strong>Petit Ren\u00e9<\/strong>, <strong>L\u2019Ombelle<\/strong>, <strong>Santasana<\/strong>, <strong>Magellan<\/strong>, <strong>Ar Beg<\/strong>, <strong>An Alarc\u2019h<\/strong>, <strong>Cyclone<\/strong>, <strong>Delphine<\/strong>, <strong>Hardi les Gars<\/strong>, <strong>Jean Dominique<\/strong>, <strong>Kebelle II<\/strong>, <strong>L\u2019Ang\u00e9lus de la Mer<\/strong>, <strong>Libert\u00e9<\/strong>, <strong>Omega<\/strong>, <strong>Saint-Nicolas<\/strong>\u2026<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<h2><strong>Techniques et savoir-faire<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Les Stipon ma\u00eetrisent l\u2019ensemble des techniques traditionnelles de la charpente navale :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>utilisation du <strong>ch\u00eane<\/strong>, du <strong>h\u00eatre<\/strong> et du <strong>pin<\/strong>,<\/li>\n<li>construction <strong>sur gabarits<\/strong>,<\/li>\n<li>assemblage <strong>\u00e0 clins<\/strong> ou <strong>\u00e0 franc-bord<\/strong>,<\/li>\n<li>protection des coques au <strong>coaltar<\/strong>,<\/li>\n<li>adaptation progressive aux motorisations modernes (renforts, lignes d\u2019arbre, puits moteur).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Le chantier est r\u00e9put\u00e9 pour la <strong>robustesse<\/strong> et la <strong>marinit\u00e9<\/strong> de ses bateaux, con\u00e7us pour affronter les conditions exigeantes de la rade de Brest.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<h2><strong>Un lieu central dans la vie du Fret<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Pendant plus de six d\u00e9cennies, les chantiers Stipon rythment la vie du village :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>les p\u00eacheurs viennent y faire r\u00e9parer leurs bateaux,<\/li>\n<li>les enfants observent les constructions depuis le sillon,<\/li>\n<li>les ouvriers du chantier deviennent des figures famili\u00e8res du port.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Le Fret, alors en pleine mutation, voit cohabiter transport maritime, p\u00eache et construction navale. Les chantiers Stipon, Tertu et Belb\u00e9oc\u2019h forment un v\u00e9ritable p\u00f4le artisanal.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<h2><strong>D\u00e9clin et fermeture (1988)<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>\u00c0 partir des ann\u00e9es 1970\u20131980, plusieurs facteurs fragilisent l\u2019activit\u00e9 :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>concurrence croissante du <strong>polyester<\/strong>,<\/li>\n<li>baisse de la p\u00eache traditionnelle,<\/li>\n<li>vieillissement des charpentiers,<\/li>\n<li>co\u00fbts d\u2019entretien des b\u00e2timents.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Le chantier ferme d\u00e9finitivement en <strong>1988<\/strong>, laissant derri\u00e8re lui un patrimoine mat\u00e9riel et immat\u00e9riel consid\u00e9rable.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<h2><strong>Restauration et renaissance patrimoniale<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Conscients de la valeur historique du site, la commune et le <strong>Conservatoire du littoral<\/strong> engagent deux campagnes de restauration, en <strong>1993<\/strong> puis en <strong>2006<\/strong>. Les cabanes sont consolid\u00e9es, les toitures reprises, les bardages restaur\u00e9s.<\/p>\n<p>Le site est ensuite confi\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019<strong>ASPMF<\/strong>, qui lui redonne vie :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>installation de la <strong>baleini\u00e8re La Fr\u00e9toise<\/strong>,<\/li>\n<li>travaux de restauration navale,<\/li>\n<li>animations et visites,<\/li>\n<li>entretien r\u00e9gulier des b\u00e2timents.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>En 2010, la commune inaugure le <strong>square des Fr\u00e8res Stipon<\/strong>, hommage \u00e0 cette famille de charpentiers qui a fa\u00e7onn\u00e9 l\u2019identit\u00e9 du Fret.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<h2><strong>Un patrimoine vivant<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Aujourd\u2019hui, les chantiers Stipon ne sont plus un lieu de production, mais un <strong>espace de m\u00e9moire et de transmission<\/strong>. Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 l\u2019engagement des b\u00e9n\u00e9voles de l\u2019ASPMF,<\/p>\n<p>Les cabanes noires du sillon demeurent un symbole fort : celui d\u2019un village tourn\u00e9 vers la mer, fier de son histoire et de ses artisans.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<h2><strong>Conclusion<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Les chantiers Stipon du Fret repr\u00e9sentent un patrimoine unique en Bretagne : un lieu o\u00f9 se croisent l\u2019histoire maritime, le savoir-faire artisanal, la vie d\u2019un village et l\u2019engagement associatif.
